Journalism Department

As mass media is the tool of journalism and journalism constitutes to be the knowledge of various aspects of media, the development of Journalism depends on the development of journalistic tools. Today's world is turned into a village based on journalism by means of media. If a person wants to be successful in his/her journalistic work, he/she should know the fundamentals of journalism, familiarize with practical aspects, and implement the advanced journalistic tools. Journalism is the fourth power of democratic society because it helps to make people aware from new situation, guide and train them in various aspects, and control the three institutions of power of a democratic government. Journalism creates relationship between people and government.

Through a joint endeavor, the Dean of Language and Literature Faculty and Chancellor of Paktia University proposed to establish Journalism and social relations department based on needs and interests of people at Paktia University, in 1393. This Department welcomed 68 students for the first time.

At the beginning, this Department had only two lecturers, Assistant Professor Noor Agha "Noori" and Assistant Professor Khalid Ahmad "Habib". They started teaching and applying the curriculum of journalism. By the passing of time, two new lecturers have joined the Department; they are Mr. Muhammad Ayaz "Zaki" and Mr. Muhammad Amin Gul "Saba". It is hoped to retain the process and to improve further the working environment with compliance of rules in the next.

In today's world of technology and communication, the serious need is journalism and media. The media related technology is developing day by day. Therefore, it is a necessity that the Journalism Department should adjust itself with international standards and norms. The Instructors of Journalism believe in :

Graduation of responsible students who make relations between people and government. Through this way, the government and people become aware from each other regarding their needs, demands, problems, achievements, and realities in order to bring positive changes.

For practical teaching and work, providing magazine, radio, and if possible a TV network. In this way, social awareness would be increased, and students would be able to put the learned theories into practices, as well. Besides, it can be helpful for students to find jobs easily.

Turning this Department into faculty in near future in order to best implement its curriculum as applied in developed countries based on principles of the Ministry of Higher Education.

If this Department is changed into faculty, separating it into two departments, mass media and social relations. These would need more professionals and equipments.

Trying to have more lecturers in order to teach based on international norms in every department.

The Department of Journalism expects from the officials of Paktia University and Ministry of Higher Education to pave the way for organizing Journalism Faculty for us in order to have good opportunities to serve in educating of students same to international standards.
