Vision
The Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension, within the framework of Paktia University, will be a leading department at the national level in teaching, research, and academic services.

Mission
To train specialized professionals in accordance with the needs of society and the market. To strive for a scientific, modern, and sustainable agricultural sector through knowledge, practical experience, and skills, in order to guide society, the region, and the country toward rapid development, sustainable welfare, and self-sufficiency in food production.

Objectives

  1. To provide society with scientific, technical, and professional graduates at the bachelor’s level in agricultural economics and extension.
  2. To enhance the capacity and personal development of professors and students through effective management and leadership of available resources.
  3. To create a professional environment for students based on labor market needs, and to transfer and apply relevant academic plans, principles, and theories.
  4. To promote sustainable development by effectively utilizing available resources, with a focus on scientific research and extension activities.
  5. To obtain and maintain accreditation in quality assurance from the Ministry of Higher Education.
  6. To introduce appropriate technologies to farmers and livestock owners and provide extension services for modernizing the agricultural sector.

A Brief History of the Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension

The Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension was established as an academic unit in 1387 (Hijri calendar) within the Faculty of Agriculture. For the first time, in 1393, it began admitting students through the national university entrance examination (Kankor).

The department functions as an academic, teaching, research, administrative, and foundational unit within the Faculty of Agriculture at Paktia University. It focuses on the efficient and optimal allocation of limited resources for plant and animal production. Additionally, it undertakes activities such as marketing agricultural products, disseminating modern agricultural methods, conducting statistical analyses, managing research projects, securing financing, overseeing agricultural transactions, promoting rural development, planning agricultural initiatives, and managing farms. It also fosters connections between researchers and farmers, along with other related activities. In line with its curriculum, the department strives to enhance knowledge and skills by organizing practical training, educational projects, seminars, and conferences for students and faculty members. In addition, it conducts and manages academic research to provide various services. Furthermore, to developing and supervising educational plans and programs, the department nominates deserving staff members for scholarships, training opportunities, and academic and research initiatives. Evaluating the academic contributions of faculty members, as assigned by other institutions, also falls under its responsibilities.
