Vision, Mission, Objectives and goals
Mission
The department of Horticulture has three broad mission areas included research, education, and extension/outreach/service.
1. Research;
The research mission of the Department encompasses generation and dissemination of knowledge to aid horticultural industries and allied endeavors. This includes making discoveries in the plant sciences; promoting the use of plants and plant products for improved human health and a safe environment; improving the characteristics, quality and availability of horticultural products; and strengthening the world’s horticultural industries. Currently the academic members of Horticulture department are seeking to find the research fund from different national and international agencies including private agencies. Research results will be disseminated to scientific peers, industry stakeholders and the public through publications and other channels.
2. Education
he educational mission of the Department is to prepare students for horticulture related careers. Within the undergraduate program, the Department offers curricula leading to an Agricultural Technology Certificate or a Bachelor of Science Degree in Horticulture. Basic and applied courses in the curricula prepare students for horticulture-related careers as well as graduate studies in plant sciences. The undergraduate and graduate curricula are continuously updated to introduce new concepts, practices, and technologies.
3. Extension/ Service
The extension/outreach/service mission of the Department is to provide research-based information to the citizens of Afghanistan. Looking to opportunities and available resources the department has plan to lunch the Extension and outreach programs which will serve industry professionals and homeowners. The department fulfill this through professional activities such as participation in international, national, regional, state and other professional associations; editorial activities for professional journals; work with government agencies and non-governmental organizations; consulting with business interests; and assisting with small businesses with using technology developed in faculty research.
Vision
Promoting Horticulture as a profitable and viable sector by leveraging technology.
Training of professional and vocational staff on country and regional wise level, reforming of food regime and food safety
Increasing the income level of horticulture farmers and assuring them an improved quality of life.
Paving way to utilize the information technology in Horticulture era.
Goals
· Maximise utilization of per unite area
· Increase of yield per unit area
· Environment protection and landscaping
· Reform of food regime and raise the value of Horticulture commodities in the economy growth of the country.
Objectives
· Training of academic stuff
· Solving of Horticulture related problem through scientific research
· Transformation of traditional growing techniques into modern growing techniques in Horticulture plants.
· Providing Horticulture specific art services including Pruning, Budding/Grafting, Thinning and application of specific chemicals and synthetic plant hormones.
· Reforming and innovations of agriculture practices (Irrigation and fertilization), in Horticulture area.
· Adapting the high density planting system in the perennial Horticultural crops
